Game Recap

The other half of the CCS Division 1 bracket featured the red hot Bellarmine Bells and the #2 Serra Padres. Two first-quarter turnovers kept the Bells away from the end zone. Serra capitalized by scoring on both occasions. Ryan Mahe came up with two key defensive plays early, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt that led to a scoop and score TD by sophomore Jabari Mann. Mann ended up earning himself the GSF Game of the Week Playmaker award for his 8 tackles, a huge 4th and long catch on the fake field goal that set up QB Dominique Lampkin’s 1-yard TD and the special teams TD.

Petelo GI ran away with the GSF Game of the Week MVP honors for his beastmode plays on offense. GI was unstoppable for Serra. He rushed for over 170 yards and added two more TDs to upgrade his senior season total to 14 touchdowns so far.

Bellarmine, the #3 seed, ended their season 8-4 with some memorable wins and moments that certainly elevated the program to much higher expectations for the future. Head Coach Jalal Beauchman and his all BCP Alum staff have done an outstanding job since taking over last Spring that got the boys “BELLieving” again.

On the flip side, Serra, the WCAL runner-ups are looking to derail the St. Francis Lancers’ quest for greatness. The undefeated Lancers denied Menlo-Atherton’s upset bid last night with their classic ground and pound style of offense. Next Friday night will be one for the ages with the Padres as the underdogs. If Serra’s defense can limit the Lancers offense to three touchdowns or less, they have a shot at winning their fourth CCS title in 6 years.
