Nine Cal Players Earn Place on Phil Steele’s List

This week, Phil Steele’s 2015 Preseason All-Pac-12 Team was announced which showcases players from around the Pac-12 and categorizes them in first through fourth teams.

Cal made a big impact with nine players being highlighted. Four players took spots on the second team, four more on the third team, and one on the fourth team.

Second team picks included Michael Barton (Jr., LB), Chris Borrayo (Jr., OL), Jared Goff (Jr., QB) and Daniel Lasco (Sr., RB).

Third team selections were Trevor Davis (Sr., KR), Kenny Lawler (Jr., WR), Bryce Treggs (Sr., WR) and Darius White (Sr., CB), while Stefan McClure (Sr., S) was a fourth-team choice.

So lets give you a break down on what these second team players can do.

Michael Barton, LB, made the second team defense as a junior after leading Cal with a career high of 80 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss during the 2014 season. This six foot, 230 pound, De La Salle Alum is first on Cal’s active career list with 15.5 tackles and second with 144 tackles.

Offensive lineman, Chris Borrayo, started 11 games at left guard during his junior year in the 2014 season. The Paramount high school alum has 16 starts at the position in his career at Cal.

Junior QB, Jared Goff, holds 16 school records including single-season passing yards with 3,973 and passing touchdowns with 35, which were set last season. Since graduating from Marin Catholic High School, Goff has been ranked among the nation’s top 10 in six individual categories in 2014.

Daniel Lasco makes the list being the first Cal RB to rush for more than 1,000 yards since 2011 when Lasco rushed for 1,115 in 2014. The six-foot, 210-pound senior has also combined for 1,471 rushing and receiving yards in 2014 for the most by a Cal player since 2008.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Nine Cal players were named Monday to Phil Steele’s 2015 Preseason All-Pac-12 teams highlighted by four second-team selections in Michael Barton (Jr., LB), Chris Borrayo (Jr., OL), Jared Goff (Jr., QB) and Daniel Lasco (Sr., RB). Cal also had four third-team picks in Trevor Davis (Sr., KR), Kenny Lawler (Jr., WR), Bryce Treggs (Sr., WR) and Darius White (Sr., CB), while Stefan McClure (Sr., S) was a fourth-team choice.
 
Michael Barton, LB, 6-0, 230, Jr., 2L, Richmond, CA (De La Salle HS)
► Led Cal with career highs of 80 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss in 2014 while adding 1.5 sacks and two pass breakups
► First on Cal’s active career list with 15.5 tackles and second with 144 tackles
 
Chris Borrayo, OL, 6-3, 305, Jr., 2L, Paramount, CA (Paramount HS)
► Started 11 games at left guard in 2014 and has 16 starts at the position in his career 
 
Trevor Davis, KR, 6-2, 180, Sr., 1L, Martinez, CA (Hawai’i/Alhambra HS)
► Ranked second nationally with 32.6 yards per kick return average and tied for second with two kickoff returns for touchdowns in 2014 as both came when he tied an NCAA single-game record with two at Washington State
 
Jared Goff, QB, 6-4, 210, Jr., 2L, Novato, CA (Marin Catholic HS)
► Holds 16 school records including single-season passing yards (3,973) and passing TDs (35) set in 2014
► Ranked among the nation’s top 10 in six individual categories in 2014
 
Daniel Lasco, RB, 6-0, 210, Sr., 2L, The Woodlands, TX (The Woodlands HS)
► First Cal running back to rush for more than 1,000 yards since 2011 when he had 1,115 in 2014
► Combined for 1,471 rushing and receiving yards in 2014 for the most by a Cal player since 2008
 
Kenny Lawler, WR, 6-3, 195, Jr., 2L, Pomona, CA (Upland HS)
► Led Cal with career highs of 54 receptions, 701 yards receiving and nine touchdown catches in 2014
► Leads all active Cal players with 14 career touchdowns to rank ninth on the school’s all-time list
 
Stefan McClure, S, 5-11, 200, Sr., 3L, Vista, CA (Vista HS)
► Recorded a season-high 50 tackles in 2014 to go along with 1.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one interception
► Has 104 career tackles and two interceptions while his seven pass breakups equal the most by all active Cal players
 
Bryce Treggs, WR, 5-11, 185, Sr., 3L, Inglewood, CA (St. John Bosco HS)
► Cal’s active career leader with 150 receptions and 1,550 yards receiving, while he also leads all Cal receivers in starts (27) and is tied for first among receivers in games played (33)
► Led Cal with a career-high 77 receptions that rank fourth on the school’s all-time single-season list as a 2013 sophomore
 
Darius White, CB, 6-1, 180, Sr., 1L, Grenada, MS (Itawamba Community College/Grenada HS)
► Recorded 28 tackles, three pass breakups and one interception in his first season at Cal as a 2014 junior
