Stanford Football – Quenton Meeks

Posted January 10, 2018 by in

Statement from junior cornerback Quenton Meeks:

“It’s crazy that it has been three years since I signed my National Letter of Intent to attend Stanford University. I signed with the next 40 years in mind.

“I have learned a lot and have grown as a man at Stanford. I have been through ups and downs on and off the field that have shaped me into who I am today.

“When I stepped on a college field for the first time, at Northwestern in 2015, I did not know how my career would play out. However, I knew I would work as hard as I could to prepare myself for my ultimate dream — playing in the NFL.

“Thirty-one wins and 33 starts later, I have been a part of a family that accomplished a lot: three bowl appearances, two bowl wins (including a Rose Bowl victory), nine or more wins in each season, two Pac-12 North titles, one Pac-12 championship, and relationships with my Cardinal brothers that will last a lifetime.

“It is time to close this chapter of my life and start writing the next. After countless prayers and many long discussions with my family, I am making the decision to forgo my senior year and enter the NFL Draft. God has blessed me with the opportunity to achieve my lifelong dream. Each time I step on a field, whether before practice or a game, I give thanks to Him and glorify Him for the gifts He has blessed me with.

“Stanford is the best university in the world, and I will be returning to finish my undergraduate degree in the near future.

“I would like to thank Coach Shaw for giving me the opportunity to attend Stanford and being a great mentor. Thank you to Coach Akina for pushing me to be the best defensive back I can be, and the wealth of knowledge you have taught me about the game. Thank you to Coach Anderson for believing in me and putting me in the best positions to help this defense be successful. Thank you to Coach Turley for kicking my butt for the last three years and teaching me how to push my body through limits I did not imagine possible to push through. Thank you to the legendary Willie Shaw for the knowledge you bestowed upon me.

“Thank you to my classmates, teammates, fans and support staff.”
