STANFORD, Calif. – Rising fifth-year senior cornerback Alameen Murphy was named to the Wuerffel Trophy preseason watch list on Thursday.

The Wuerffel Trophy has been presented annually to the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement since 2005.

Murphy, a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, has played in every game over the past three seasons. He is the third-leading tackler returning to the Cardinal in 2018, and first among defensive backs.

During his time on The Farm, he has been an active member of the community. In addition to his visits to local children’s hospitals, the Fort Washington, Maryland, native has been a part of Stanford “Set the Expectation” initiative in the fight against sexual assault awareness.

Stanford begins the 2018 campaign on Aug. 31 against San Diego State. Kickoff at Stanford Stadium is set for 6 p.m. PT.
