2018 GSF Rapid Fire 7v7 All-Tournament

Posted March 10, 2018 by in

San Jose, CA – The following is a list of eighteen athletes that participated in the first GSF Rapid Fire Tournament. After a successful six-team tournament which involved a few D-1 prospects from the local area, Executive producer Alforde Joaquin and tournament president Paul Rodriguez moved forward with the decision to reward the athletes who were well-deserving of the award.

“We talked to the coaches and asked them what they thought and we got positive feedback.” Joaquin said after a couple of days reviewing the official footage from the tournament. “There were so many good things that happened and this is the extra mile that needed to be paved. We plan to do this for every single tournament we put on.”

Two days after the conclusion of their first tournament, Rodriguez and Joaquin made a surprise announcement on social media.

The GSF 7v7 Open Championship is intended to compete against the existing national caliber tournaments across the nation.

When asked how many teams out of state are going to participate, Joaquin had this to say: “We don’t expect a lot of out of state teams to participate in May but by next year, you’re gonna see a lot more out of state teams making their way to the Bay Area.”

With the decline in youth football participation and the concern regarding long-lasting injuries, 7v7 football is on the rise and the two organizers are looking to take a chunk of the market share in the western part of the country.

“We had fun planning the first tournament. We have fun highlighting the student-athletes and their coaches. We’re moving forward and we’re not looking back. We want to give proper exposure to the student-athletes.”

And naming an All-Tournament team is another GetSportsFocus move that really supports their mission.

2018 GSF Rapid Fire 7v7 All-Tournament Team

Tournament MVP – Ethan Janto WR/TE Pro-Sport Training | Santa Teresa HS Class of 2019
Janto is a playmaker. He showed off his speed, strength and talent, snagging footballs in the air like a young Gronk. Janto plays QB for his high school team because he’s the best athlete on the squad. Unanimously voted as the GSF 7v7 Rapid Fire Tournament MVP, Janto hopes that someone will see his athletic ability and take a chance. He’s ready for the opportunity and maintains a 4.0 GPA. Janto is a real Student-Athlete that is set to play at the next level.

Championship Offensive MVP – Justin Munday QB Grindmode Elite | Oak Grove HS Class of 2019
Munday was solid throughout the day and made the right decisions en route to leading the first year team Grindmode to its first tournament title.

Championship Defensive MVP – Gregory Elliott DB Grindmode Elite | Oak Grove HS Class of 2019
Elliott had the game-sealing pick for the SoBay-based organization. Elliott jumped a pass up the middle with less than 30 seconds left in the championship game.

GRINDMODE ELITE – Head Coach Brandon Younger

Isaiah McElvane – WR Grindmode | Isaiah made some clutch plays down the stretch. With his size and speed he was a matchup nightmare the entire day.

Izaiah Nakanishi – WR Grindmode | This guy was a big playmaker all day. He hauled in the championship-sealing touchdown and also had several huge plays throughout the day. He led the team in touchdown receptions.

Ryan Cooper JR – CB Grindmode | Ryan was lockdown all day. He didn’t give up a single touchdown the entire tournament.

Edward Kofuma-Henry – CB Grindmode | The sophomore cornerback, although slim in size, was lockdown all day. His interception vs. IAM Savage on the sideline was spectacular.

Alejandro Flores – QB PST | The junior showed off his arm, connecting on deep passes to his two speedy wide receivers Ethan Janto and Tommy Dunham. Flores was impressive in his ball placement skills.

Tommy Dunham – WR PST | “Touchdown Tommy” is ready for the fall having added a few pounds of muscle mass to go along with his modified speed and agility. He was Flores’ second favorite target during the tournament that got the crowd’s attention every time he caught a deep bomb.

Jack Reilly – CB PST | Reilly had 3 huge interceptions that helped the SoBay original 7v7 organization get to the championship.

Nick Fernandez – CB PST | Fernandez is the pass-breakup specialist on the squad. Another home grown product of Coach Rangel.

BAY AREA TITANS HIGH OCTANE – Head Coach Charles Hurtado

Dezion Bartley – WR/DB BAT High Octane | Junior Bartley showed off his athletic ability right from the start. His quickness and speed gave the opposing QB a lot of trouble with his timing

Darrion Bartley – WR/DB BAT High Octane | Sophomore Darrion was a quick target for his QB. He too left doubts in the opposing QB, forcing a lot of hesitation and misfires. The Bartley Brothers both play at Pittsburg HS

Jalen Apalit – TE/LB BAT High Octane | Apalit, a sophomore from Alhambra HS displayed his strong catching ability. Apalit will be a BEAST next Fall for the Bulldogs.

EXPRESS 7v7 – Head Coach Eric Washington Jr.

Evan Williams – WR Express 7v7 | Williams was spectacular throughout the day. What makes Williams dangerous is his ability to track the ball down and haul it in. Williams was a 2017 GSF All-Star WR/DB

Justin Sinclair – DB Express 7v7 | The SJSU recruit did his thing swatting away passes on deep routes and intercepting a few of them. Sinclair and Williams are both looking to upgrade the standards of the St. Francis Lancers secondary next fall and Express 7v7 is going to play a major role with them accomplishing that.

Asi Bailey – WR / Jamani Murphy – CB IAM Fitness510 | Bailey is a sophomore from Hayward high, Murphy is a Stellar Prep standout. IAM Fitness had the youngest squad collectively but stood toe to toe to their competition.
