VALLEY CHRISTIAN WARRIORS VS SERRA PADRES: THREE KEYS

1. KELEPI LATAIMUA: 2013 #PLAYMAKER, 2014 #MVP

This junior can do it all for Serra and his play has impressively evolved from last season. Lataimua has gained 25 pounds since 2013 and has shown the durability needed to last through physical WCAL games. At 5’8″ and 185 pounds, he matched up with 6’5″, 200-pound receiver Collin Johnson. Johnson ended up with one reception for 36 yards, but it wasn’t against Lataimua who also stripped Tre McCloud for a fumble, backed up against the Serra end zone. Finally, don’t forget a 15-yard touchdown run to seal Serra’s first WCAL win of 2014.

2. THE BIG PADRE

Serra offensive tackle Jack Dreyer is listed at 6’8″ and 290 pounds, already looking like the future Stanford lineman he will become in 2015. Dreyer lined up at left and right tackle, leading the way for the Padres’ rush offense. Head coach Patrick Walsh believes in clock management and committing to the run game. With Dreyer on his team, why wouldn’t he?

3. DEFENSE WINS IN THE WCAL

The Padres defense has allowed just 10 points in the last two games after giving up 65 total to De La Salle and Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks. This unit contained Valley Christian’s big-play offense, limiting the Warriors to 83 yards in the first half. More importantly, Serra caused three turnovers that led to 10 points.
