San Ramon Valley vs California – GetSportsFocus Football 2013

Posted October 26, 2013 by in – After winning 41-38 last season, 2013’s score between the California Grizzlies and the San Ramon Valley Wolves wasn’t as close. Eric Billeci’s team is now 7-1 (5-0) and is currently ranked first in the EBAL standings after a 35-21 win.

An efficient Cal offense scored touchdowns on 5-of-7 possessions, including perfection in the red zone. Blake Bierwith had an MVP performance on Senior Night, rushing for his team’s final three touchdowns. Another senior in quarterback Cameron Owen went 7-for-9 with 127 yards and two touchdowns, both of those passes hauled in by C.J. Cornwell. The Grizzlies led 21-14 at halftime but their defense held the Wolves to only seven points in the second half and forced two turnovers.

San Ramon Valley’s signal-caller Matt Winaker came into this game with the highest completion percentage in the EBAL. Winaker hit 10-of-10 passes to start the night off and his running back Marcus de la Pena carried the rock 25 times for 153 yards and one touchdown, also catching an 18-yard score. The Wolves have now lost six of the last seven meetings against California High.

San Ramon Valley (4-4, 3-1) returns home next Friday for a pivotal matchup against division rival Foothill (7-1, 3-1). Cal will head to Livermore High (2-5, 0-3) that same night where another win came move the Grizzlies closer to an EBAL championship.
