STANFORD, Calif. – Junior running back and human biology major Bryce Love was named a Heisman Trophy finalist by the Heisman Trophy Trust on Monday.

Love is one of three finalists, including Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Heisman winner will be announced Saturday evening on ESPN.

A native of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Love is the fifth Stanford finalist in the past nine seasons, and 10th overall. Jim Plunkett is Stanford’s only Heisman Trophy winner (1970).

Love leads all Power 5 running backs in rushing yards, rushing yards/game, yards/carry and runs of 20, 30, 40 and 50 yards. His 12 runs of 50 or more yards this year is an FBS record, and his 11 100-yard rushing performances leads the nation and tied a school record.

In the Pac-12 Championship Game, Love surpassed 2009 Heisman finalist Toby Gerhart and moved into second place on the school’s single-season rushing list with 1,973 yards this season. With a bowl game remaining, he needs 47 yards to break the school record set by McCaffrey in 2015.
