St. Ignatius opens up WCAL with a big win over SHC – #TheJustinLumReport

Posted January 9, 2014 by in – St. Ignatius (8-1, 1-0 WCAL) dominated their rivals in Sacred Heart Cathedral (8-2, 0-1 WCAL) defeating the Fightin’ Irish 70-39. The win also kept the Bruce-Mahoney trophy at St. Ignatius for a second-straight year, giving the Wildcats a 47-20 record in the storied rivalry.
Trevor Dunbar led his team to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and from that point onward, the Wildcats took over. Dunbar finished the game with 15 points, 4 assists, and 5 steals while senior forward Julian Marcu scored 19 points and racked up 12 rebounds. The guard tandem of Dunbar and Jaren Yang got the Wildcats started with a 19-0 run to make it a 26-11 game in just the first quarter. The early explosion of points carried St. Ignatius while the defense held SHC to 39 total points, the lowest of the season for the Irish.
 The Wildcats have some momentum with a 1-0 WCAL record but will go on the road for five-straight league games.
