
#5 Gonzaga remains unbeaten in the WCC, Zags VS Saint Mary’s Highlights
GetSportsFocus.com – Saint Mary’s took their first home loss last night against #5 Gonzaga in a WCC conference battle for first place. The Gaels fought hard in the first half to lead 33-32, led by Matthew Dellavedova’s three-point attack. Dellavedova scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half but the second half was all Gonzaga. Gary Bell Jr. led the Bulldogs with 20 points, draining four crucial three-pointers. The key player for Gonzaga was Kelly Olynyk who put up his usual 17 points and 7 rebounds. Olynyk’s inside presence was an x-factor in Gonzaga’s success. The Bulldogs adjusted to Dellavedova, keeping him to three points in the second half and outscoring the Gaels 45-27. The numbers did not lie as Saint Mary’s was out rebounded 32-22 while Gonzaga shot 50 percent from the field. Gonzaga is still undefeated in WCC play at 11-0 and will visit USF this Saturday. That same day, Saint Mary’s will try to improve on their conference record of 10-2 against Loyola Marymount.
