Santa Clara Women’s Basketball blows past SJSU Spartans
Much like their male counterparts who played the night before them, the San Jose State women’s basketball team struggled offensively, sinking only 15-63 buckets for a 62-47 loss to the Santa Clara Broncos Wednesday night at the Event Center.
The Spartans’ (3-6) 23.8 field goal percentage makes it their worst shooting night of the season. The Broncos (5-4) weren’t particularly spectacular shooting 34.8 percent from the field, but they wiped the glass for a season high 57 rebounds.
Guard Ricki Radanovich led her team to victory shooting 5-10 from beyond the arc for a game-high 21 points and five steals, while teammate Lindsay Leo got her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley Armstrong also had a solid game with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Also leading the team from the backcourt, guard Ta’Rea Cunnigan put the first six points on the board for the Spartans, finishing with 20 points and a game-high six steals.
San Jose played with only seven active players with five points from the bench compared to Santa Clara’s 14 points from seven bench players.
The Spartans move on to play the San Francisco Dons Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at War Memorial Gym, while Santa Clara gets ready to take on UC Davis Sunday at 4:00 p.m. on the Aggies’ home court.
