
SJSU Basketball: James Kinney and Louis Garrett combined for 47 points against Seattle University
GetSportsFocus.com – The Spartans men’s basketball team improved their record to 3-1 in WAC, 8-6 overall after defeating the Redhawks of Seattle University 76-71. D.J. Brown had 11 assist for the Spartans. Seattle was tough all throughout the game. Kinney lead the scoring with 26 points with Garrett’s season high 21 points. Garrett lead an 11 point scoring drive early in the second half hitting three bombs from downtown. Redhawks actually took a temporary lead in the early minutes of the second half when Deshaun Saunderhaus rebounded Chad Rasmussen’s missed three point shot and put it back in for the score. Seatle led 33-31 at that point. The Spartans would take a 44-35 lead after LaVanne Pennington took D.J. Brown’s pass on a break and finished with a lay up. Seattle would come back again and pulled to within two when Prince Obasi made a nice pass to the inside to Louis Green who made a lay up to make it 49-47. But SJSU would keep it together, trading baskets with Seattle and making free throws. Seattle struggled from the line which really hurt their chances of winning. San Jose State would improve their record to 8-6 overall, they are 3-1 in WAC, Spartans victorious over Seatle U 76-71
