GetSportsFocus.com – The trending theme this season has been the amount of injuries the Spartans have faced throughout the 2013 season; however, there is a veteran wide receiver who has continued to lead the San Jose State offense. Without standout WR Noel Grigsby, due to injury, Chandler Jones has been a leader on the offense. Although Jones will continue to give credit to his teammates that have gone down with injuries, he also understands the show must go on, which is exactly what he has done.
Thus far in the 2013 season, Jones has 47 rec for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns. While throughout his career, he has 216 rec for 2608 yards and 24 touchdowns. Jones is close to having his best season of his entire career.
Jones is not only a leader on the Spartan offense, but he is someone that has made an impact on the entire team. He is looking to help his 2013 Spartans go to a bowl game for the second consecutive year.
Jones feels like he can relate to the younger players because at one point in his Spartan career, he was seeing a lot of playing time as well. He was the first freshman in Spartan history to have 50 rec in a game. Through eight games in this season, Jones has 877 yards while the next closest amount of receiving yards he has had in a season was 691 yards as a junior.
As a playmaker for the Spartans, Jones looks to help his team to another winning season. Angela Santoro had a chance to speak to Chandler Jones about the 2013 season, about the upcoming San Diego State game, and about embracing the underclassmen who have stepped up.
