Posted March 5, 2018 by in

INDIANAPOLIS – Former Cal player James Looney was the lone defensive lineman ranked in the top-10 among the 40 in his position group at the 2018 NFL Combine in each of the six measurable skills tests he competed in at Lucas Oil Stadium. Looney began his performance Saturday by registering 28 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press to tie for 10th. He completed his four days at the combine Sunday with five more top-10 finishes among defensive linemen in the 20-yard shuttle (4.37, 2nd), vertical jump (35.5, 3rd), 3-cone drill (7.32, 7th), broad jump (9’5″, T8th) and 40-yard dash (4.89, 10th).

“James is an elite caliber athlete,” Cal football head strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton said. “His forte is power, quickness and athletic ability. Based on what he did at Cal, I’m not surprised by any of his combine numbers.”
