CCS Open Division Championship – Serra Padres vs Mitty Monarchs

Posted December 7, 2013 by in – The Junipero Serra Padres are victorious Friday night at San Jose City College after defeating the Arch Bishop Mitty Monarchs 21-7 to claim their first Coastal Coast Section Championship.

It was a defensive battle early until Junior running back Dakari Monroe ran a 74-yard touchdown with 2:20 to go in the third quarter for the first score of the game and gave the Monarchs (11-2) their only lead of the game 7-0.

Serra answered back on the ensuing drive. Backed up on their own 13-yard-line Senior quarterback Matthew Fa’aita hooked up with Junior Kava Cassidy for a 27-yard pass play to take the Padres to the Monarchs 40-yard line. With two plays later Fa’aita completes the pass to Senior wide receiver Hamilton Anoa’I who scores on a 30-yard pass play. That score ties the game 7-7.

With the first play of the fourth quarter Senior corner back Vance Camp makes a game changing play and intercepts sophomore Sam Serra and takes the ball to Mitty’s 9-yard line. Two plays after the interception Fa’aita runs into the endzone to give the Padres their first lead of the game 14-7.

One the second drive of the fourth quarter the Padres score again behind the legs of Junior wide receiver Nicolas Jones who runs into the endzone from the Monarchs 2-yard line to give the Padres (11-2) the final score of 21-7.

MVP of the game Matthew Fa’aita finished the game passing 16-24, 222yds, 1 TD and rushed 14 times for 47 yards and a TD.
