ARCHBISHOP MITTY VS PALO ALTO: THREE TAKEAWAYS

1. MONARCHS
The Mitty running game was on all cylinders against Palo Alto as Brett Foley, Derek Bauerle and Luke Allen combined for five touchdown runs. Allen earned the MVP, rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries. This productive rushing offense controlled the clock and helped the Monarchs score a season-high 55 points.

2. DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE

Mitty defensive coordinator Keith Burns is a former college head coach (Tulsa) and former NFL assistant coach (Oakland Raiders). His resume is legit and he has the Monarchs defense looking even more legit after the recent bye week. Mitty pressured Palo Alto QB Oliver Svirsky, forcing two interceptions and sacking him at least three times. To win in the WCAL, your defense has to be a physical, disciplined and tight-knit group. Burns’ interaction with his players is a sign that this unit can improve week to week.

3. PALY’S SLEEPER

Vikings senior running back Jayshawn Puckett is Palo Alto’s main offensive weapon. He started slow versus Mitty but finished with 55 rush yards and two touchdowns. Paly also has an athletic quarterback in Svirsky so it would be interesting to see if the read-option is used more this season.
