#2 Oak Grove came into the first round of the CCS Open Division II playoffs looking for some respect, and I’m thinking they left with a boatload of it.
An impressive 52-35 victory over #7 Archbishop Mitty, from the powerful WCAL, has OG quieting the doubters who thought the Eagles couldn’t hang with the “private school big boys.” Leading the charge is “Mr. Everything,” Rashaan Fontenette.
Fontenette finished the game with 145 yards rushing on 15 carries, three touchdowns on the ground, one onside kick returned for a TD, an interception, a tackle for loss, completed a pass for 26 yards…and converted a first down on a fake punt attempt. Hands down MVP.
However, “Mr. Everything” did get some help from the “Playmaker” of the game, Enrique Rivera. He rushed for 92 yards on just 9 carries and two touchdowns. The senior RB/DB also returned a few kicks of over 30 yards and intercepted a pass.
The Eagles will have to stay motivated next week as they will face the winner of the Valley Christian/Los Gatos game this Saturday night.
