1. RIORDAN RUNS THE ROCK
Junior running back Raymone Sanders was Riordan’s workhorse all night, carrying the ball 34 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Sanders is listed at 5-7 and 152 pounds but showed toughness between the tackles and quickness when bouncing to the outside for clutch runs. Finally, don’t sleep on Crusaders QB Jack Luavasa who showed his athleticism on a 55-yard run near the end of the third quarter which led to the game-winning score by Sanders.
2. SHUTTING DOWN SHC
The Fightin’ Irish came into this game averaging nearly 38 points per game but only scored one touchdown against the Crusaders defense. Riordan allowed a 5-yard TD run by Jamar Williams-Sheppard on SHC’s first drive. After that, the Crusaders finished by forcing seven punts and two turnovers. Williams-Sheppards was held to 50 rushing yards on 21 carries while quarterback Logan White was sacked twice.
3. READY FOR LEAGUE PLAY
After losing to a still-undefeated Milpitas team 27-0, Riordan gave the next three teams headaches, losing to Sacred Heart Prep, Menlo-Atherton, and Saint Francis by a combined 10 points. The crusade can continue with solid defense and a productive running game but John Lee’s team has to stop Kirk Johnson and Valley Christian next week.
