Mitty Monarchs Defense Comes Up Big in the Second Half Against Pittsburg

Defense…defense…defense (and a few penalties) was the name of the game at Foothill college on a cool Friday evening, as the Mitty Monarchs hosted the Pittsburg Pirates from their home away from home.
Despite an early first quarter score by the Pirates, highlighted by a 36 yard pass by quarterback Keith Walker to wide receiver Jordan Parker and an eight yard touchdown reception by Shurod Thompson, points would be at a minimum.
In fact, Thompson’s first quarter TD was the only score of the first half…and the only points for Pittsburg in the entire game.
Mitty’s offense was virtually non-existent in the first half and proved that by not obtaining a single first down through the first two quarters.
However, stellar defensive plays by Luke Allen, Johnathan Trujillo, Nicholas McMurry and Adam Acevedo, among others, gave the offense new life and great field position throughout the night.
In due time, Allen, quarterback Brett Foley and running back Dakari Monroe were able to find a rhythm and produce two second half scores to win their final game (13-7), before taking on the rest of the WCAL.
Mitty (2-1) will host Sacred Heart Cathedral (3-0) next Friday night at Foothill College.
As for Pittsburgh (3-2), they are on bye this week but return to action on October 10th when they travel to Antioch and take on Deer Valley (3-1)
