St. Francis Lancers advances to the CCS D-2 Championship against Los Gatos

Mike Lauck, the Lancers QB turned Tebow against Aragon, rushing for over 100 yards and scoring two TDs on the ground and tossing two perfect passes for a touch down.  St. Francis is ready to make history Saturday night when they face a very tough and well improved Los Gatos team.

Two weeks ago, our very own Alex Simon made his predictions and here’s what he had to say before the playoff games took place:

Division II

#8 Overfelt (6-4) @ #1 Saint Francis (5-5), Friday at 7pm.
#5 Aragon (7-3) @ #4 Leland (6-4), Friday at 7pm.
#6 South San Francisco (7-3) @ #3 Wilcox (7-3), Friday at 7pm.
#7 Pioneer (4-6) @ #2 Los Gatos (6-4), Friday at 7pm.
Saint Francis comes into the playoffs after an enormous 24-0 rout at Serra, and had the best defense in the WCAL this season, recording 2 league shutouts and 3 total. Against the top 3 seeds in the Open Division, the Lancers lost by a combined 15 points, with 2 of those 3 games coming on the road. QB Mike Lauck and WR Austin Woodard have smashed school records through the air. Los Gatos will face Pioneer in a rematch of last season’s DII championship, which Los Gatos won 28-21. A balanced offensive attack makes the Wildcats a dangerous opponent. The Wilcox Chargers have been consistent all season, but will play a SSF team that has no fear of top-level opponents, as they fought valiantly in a 13-7 loss to Menlo-Atherton earlier this year. Leland is a strong team, but I am leaning more towards Aragon, as they can put points on the scoreboard against a Leland defense that has had trouble stopping good offenses. The key will be if the Dons can get their offense going early.
Predictions:
Round 1: SF over Overfelt, Aragon over Leland, Wilcox over SSF, Los Gatos over Pioneer.
Round 2: SF over Aragon, Los Gatos over Wilcox.
Championship: SF over Los Gatos.
