Valley Christian vs Bellarmine – @GetSportsFocus Football 2013
GetSportsFocus.com – Bellarmine came into tonights WCAL matchup having won 4 out of the previous 5 match-ups against Valley Christian, but with the way the Warriors back field was running, improving on that record would be quite the task…something the Bells clearly couldnt contain.
The dynamic duo of Kirk Johnson and Tre McCloud was all the offense Valley would need. The Warriors attempted only one pass that wasnt completed, and accumulated 330 total yards on offense, with 141 yards rushing going to McCloud and 189 yards rushing going to Johnson.
The two also accounted for the teams 4 touchdowns (McCloud 3; Johnson 1). The only other scorer was kicker Kody Kroening; making one field goal from 38 yards out, and converting 4 extra points.
On the flip side…
Bellarmine couldnt find their grove on offense. Quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels had somewhat of an efficient game going 10 of 15 and hitting 8 different targets for 164 yards, yet 76 of them came on one pass to Austin Changras. That play did set the Bells up for their only score of the first half; a one yard TD run by Samuels.
Considering Bellarmine had turned over the ball twice on fumbles in the first, and could hardly sustain a drive (with the exception of the aforementioned drive), the Bells were certainly fortunate to only be down 7-10 at the half…but that silver lining quickly vanished as the Warriors put up 21 unanswered points in the second half and sealed their 4th win of the season.
Valley Christian (4-3) will take on Archbishop Riordan (2-4), while Bellarmine (5-2) will travel to the city to face Sacred Heart Cathedral (2-4) next week.
