Tuesday afternoon it seemed as if the Warriors from Valley Christian (13-10) were about to end their five game losing streak during a big matchup against the Bells from Bellarmine (18-6) after taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 7th.

Theron Kay, starting pitcher for the Warriors, threw six and one-third solid innings against the Bells, allowing just six hits and two earned runs throughout the game. Justin Calomeni, senior starting Bellarmine pitcher, did just about anything he could to out play Kay. Calomeni as well threw six and one-third innings on just five hits and only one earned run.

After the Bell’s failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities during both the 5th and the 6th innings, the final three outs for the Warriors seemed to be the hardest to make. During a pitcher-dominated game, Bellarmine managed three hits during the bottom half of the 7th ending with a walk-off double by senior catcher Jake Whipple.

With the win the Bell’s improve to 18-6 on the year and 7-4 during WCAL play. This places them comfortably in the 3rd spot in league standings, but with key matchups against Archbishop Mitty of San Jose and Saint Francis of Mountain View wrapping up the year, the Bell’s regular season is far from over.
