Senior Melissa Lee is not only a CCS champion in the 101 weight class, but is also an inspiration to young girls in the Bay Area. Being a female wrestler is difficult and Lee wants to inspire young girls all over to take up the sport. It is growing already but Lee wants to make sure that no girl shies away from wrestling. Lee admits it is difficult being a part of a male dominated sport since the respect level is not where it should be yet. On a more positive note she likes that her male teammates drive her to be a better wrestler. Fremont High School has lost Lee’s older sister as she is at Stanford now, which will affect the team. Fremont has added some girls to its team and Lee mentioned that other girls are showing interest. Lee wants to win a State title in her weight class as well as help her team be as successful as they can be. The senior is a star student, so at the moment she is not considering wrestling in college since it is not offered at her academic schools of choice. Lee did ensure that if there was any opportunity to join a wrestling club in college that she would jump at the opportunity.
