Saturday afternoon featured a potential NCS finals preview at CAL Berkeley and it did not disappoint. It was a classic pitchers duel between two aces; De La Salle’s Justin Hooper and College Park’s Joe DeMers.
The two high school phenoms were matching zeros through the first five innings, striking out batters and fielding their position to wiggle their way out of jams. However, DeMers and College Park would stumble a bit in the bottom of the 6th.
The Spartans Michael McAdoo would start things off with a lead off double and would eventually come around to score courtesy of a Michael Reuling single to center. McAdoo’s two for three day with a double and a run scored guided him to GOW Playmaker status.
DLS would get some insurance runs following Reuling’s single, as Blake Ogburn left the yard with a shot to straight away left. It was his fifth homer of the season and gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead heading into the 7th.
Yet, one run would have been enough for De La Salle’s ace. The southpaw hurled an impressive two-hit shutout and recorded 10 strikeouts for the win and the coveted GOW MVP shirt.
