Monte Vista beats De La Salle, remains undefeated – GSF Boys Basketball 2014

Monte Vista senior center Spencer Rust kept the undefeated record alive for the Mustangs (16-0, 4-0 EBAL) by blocking Devin Asiasi’s lay-up with 7.9 seconds left to go in the game which gave the Mustangs a 41-38 victory. The win for the Mustangs ended a 5 game winnings streak for the De La Salle Spartans. (10-4, 3-1 EBAL)
De La Salle junior guard Eric Daul drained a game tying 3-point shot late in the 4th quarter to tie the game 37-37. Monte Vista answered back when Rust made a lay-up in the closing seconds of the 4th quarter to give the Mustangs a 39-38 lead. Then Senior Trevor John nailed two clutch free throws to give the Mustangs a 41-38 lead.
Trevor John and Spencer Rust scored a combined 27 points for the Monte Vista Mustangs. John was the leading scorer who finished with 15 points, and Rust finished the night strong with 12 points.
Monte Vista will go on the road to face Amador Valley High School (12-3, 2-1 EBAL) on Tuesday while De La Salle will face Long Beach Poly (12-6, 4-0 ML) at Haas Pavilion in UC Berkeley for 17th annual MLK Classic.
