GetSportsFocus.com – Salesian and Serra-Gardena played a great game of basketball in the CIF Girls Division Four Girls State Championship. A great battle was witnessed between Serra’s Michigan-bound guard Siera Thompson and Salesian’s junior phenom Mariya Moore. In the end, Serra prevailed 62-60, taking home their first CIF State title.

Siera Thompson is an all-around guard with superb shooting skills. She led the Cavs with 26 points and made 11 of 12 free throws. Another Serra compliment was senior Deandrea Toler who contributed 20 points with eight rebounds. These two guards only missed a combined 68 seconds the whole game.
The Pride have so much to look forward to next season. Mariya Moore will be a senior and is already rated as one of the top juniors in the nation. Moore recorded a triple-double last week against Menlo and followed that performance with 35 points versus Serra. “Moo” also broke two CIF Girls State Championship records for free throws made and attempted. She surpassed Lisa Leslie’s 23-year-old record of 17 free throw attempts by shooting 20. Moore broke the eight-year-old record of 13 free throws made, knocking down 17.
Salesian finished their season with a 29-7 record while Serra-Gardena completes a 30-5 championship year.
