Former San Jose HS Stars Drafted and Signed by NFL Teams

Former Oak Grove Football star and Colorado Buffaloes CB Chidobe Awuzie was the 60th pick in the second round of the NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Awuzie set a school record with 26 tackles for loss and 9 sacks by a defensive back. He was a First-Team All-Pac 12 as a senior and clocked in a 4.43 40-yard dash at the NFL combine to go along with his 11-foot board jump.

Ken Olugbode, another Colorado Buffs and San Jose native was signed by the Cleveland Browns. Olugbode, a Bellarmine College Prep Alum, is a 6’1, 222 lb LB who led his 2016 Pac-12 South Championship squad with 115 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups and three interceptions.

Another former teammate of Olugbode signed by the Browns is SJSU’s Tim Crawley, also a Bellarmine alum. Crawley was the face of Spartan Football his senior year and was a 2016 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award winner of an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and one of 12 Campbell Trophy finalists for the top scholar-athlete award in college football. Crawley finished off his college career with 421 rushing yards on 104 carries, 151 receptions for 1,699 yards and 16 total TDs.

Los Gatos native Shane Smith, another SJSU Spartan is headed to the New York Giants. The 6’2″ 227 lb FB had an impressive Pro Day back in April. Smith shattered the Spartans bench press and standing long jump records with 36 reps of 225lb and an 10-feet-5 jump. He also had an outstanding vertical of 37 inches.
