Branham senior Jesus Garcia drew a foul during extra time in their matchup against Lincoln which led to a put-back goal by fellow senior Nicholas Gragosa on the free-kick by Ivan Marquez. That was the go-ahead goal that gave the Bruins their 8th victory in a row to take sole possession of first place in the Mt. Hamilton Division.
It was a scoreless game up until 20 minutes into the second half. Branham drew a foul right at midfield. Marquez sent a solid ball right up the middle that got deflected by the Lions’ goalkeeper Francisco Ramirez as he landed on top of his own teammate. Bruins midfielder Emmanuel Denis was at the right place at the right time to kick the ball right up the middle for the first goal of the game.
Lincoln tied it up when senior captain Johan Granados made a putback goal from a penalty kick. It is also worth noting that his fellow captain and striker Kaleb Asfew was unavailable to play the game.
The final score was 2-1 Branham. Both teams will meet again on the 31st of this month for the rematch.
