Redwood City Rumble: Wildcats Keep the Log

REDWOOD CITY — The annual Redwood City Rumble lived up to its rivalry reputation as the Woodside Wildcats powered past the Sequoia Ravens, 42-14, on Saturday night to keep the rivalry log for another year.

The first quarter was all defense. Sequoia’s Randy Nunez opened the game with an interception, but Woodside’s JJ Lange quickly returned the favor on the next possession. Sequoia struck first when Luke Ostrander connected with Jayden Russi for the opening touchdown, putting the Ravens up 7-0 after one.

The second quarter belonged to the Wildcats. Daniel Torres set up the tying score with an impressive fumble recovery that rolled to the one-yard line, leading to Alex Valencia’s touchdown run. Lange then took over — scoring twice in the quarter to give Woodside a 21-7 halftime lead.

In the third, Lange found Juan Servin on a short pass that turned into six more. The Wildcat defense dominated, with Henry Schwab knocking down passes and Isaac Pech adding an interception. Woodside capitalized again — Charlie Dalrymple hit James Yauch for another touchdown, followed by a late rushing score from Torres to make it 42-7 heading into the fourth.

Sequoia never quit. Ostrander hit tight end Jackson Tetley for a late touchdown, but the Wildcats’ commanding performance secured the 42-14 victory and bragging rights on El Camino.

Woodside (now 6-3) extends its winning streak in the rivalry, while Sequoia (4-5) looks to regroup heading into the final week of the regular season.
