After a stellar performance under pressure on national TV against De La Salle, Serra Padres QB Maealiuaki Smith outdid himself with four total touchdowns to lead Serra past Central Catholic 42-30.
It wasn’t the Serra defense’s best game partly because of the Raiders’ all-out offensive effort. Central Catholic’s one-two-punch RB Tyler Jacklich and QB Tyler Wentworth gave it their all but eventually faltered. The Padres had too much depth and arsenal at their disposal.
Five different Padres scored. Joey Villaroman, Grant McGovern, Seamus Gilmartin, Jayden Weber, and Jaden Green all caught touchdown passes from Smith. Green scored his second on a toss left to the corner pylon in the third. Defensively, the Padres were tested by the Raiders, a great preparation for what is to come when WCAL play starts in two weeks.
Serra will open up league play against the St. Francis Lancers in Mtn. View on the 23rd of September.
