Padre Defense was solid once again against WCAL foe Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Fightin’ Irish got off to a strong start forcing Serra to multiple turnovers, but the Padres have depth and eventually took over the game.
Hassan “The Missile” Mahasin gave the offense a boost right before the half with his second TD of the game, a 53-yard burst down the left side. Freshmen Jabari Mann and Joseph Bey made key plays on defense and special teams. Mann scored his first varsity TD in the third that gave Serra a 35-10 cushion. SHC’s Tyler Ivy Jr caught the only TD for his QB Cian Dowling team. Linebacker Bruce Uperesa was a pest for SHC and derailed Serra’s offensive schemes in the second quarter.
The Padre defense was led by junior defensive end Ryan Mahe who forced a fumble that led to a score and was involved in several tackles for losses in the first three-quarters of the game.
Final score: 49-10 Serra
