#32 Jaylen Thomas – ATH/WR/FS • Los Gatos Wildcats • Class of 2024

Jaylen Thomas is a ball magnet. The ball just finds him on offense and on defense. A natural playmaker, Jaylen comes from a very athletic family. His mom and dad’s athletic resume is pretty much a guarantee that #JT32 is bound for greatness.

Voted as the 2021-2022 SCVAL Sophomore of the Year and 1st Team All-League, Jaylen’s contribution to his Los Gatos Wildcats was very impactful. He was utilized everywhere as a “Wildcat” QB, WR, FS, punter, kicker, and holder and he even threw a 65-yard TD on a fake punt in the CCS Open Division playoffs against Bellarmine for the game’s first score. Los Gatos took the SCVAL league title with a 10-1 finish with their super sophomore Jaylen Thomas.

His two older sisters are D1 softball players and earned scholarships at SJSU and UCSB.

His mom, Sarah Thomas, *1993 and 1994 was a First Team All-State catcher at McQueen High School in Reno from 1993-1994. She was a 3X All-League, All-Section, and All-Region catcher played four years as starting catcher at San Jose State, and was a captain.

His dad and coach Shawn Thomas was a 3-sport athlete at Leigh High School (Football, Baseball, Basketball) and was inducted into Leigh HS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He was also an SJSU Football Letterman (1988-1990), 1990 SJSU Football Golden Spike Winner, 1990 Big West, and Raisin Bowl Champion, and was ranked 20th Nationally at the end of the season.

Coach Thomas was a graduate assistant from 1996-1997 at SJSU. He took over the head coaching position at Leigh HS from 2001-2010 and was an All-Star coach in the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star game in 2003 and in 2009. Coach Thomas received the BVAL Mt. Hamilton Coach of the Year award in 2004 and 2008. Served as an assistant coach at Valley Christian HS San Jose in 2012, VC won CCS that year. He was part of the 2017 Junior Pee Wee National Champions as an assistant coach and was an assistant coach at Los Gatos High School in 2019, also another CCS Championship team that year.

“Finally got one…” We refer to him as the South Bay’s Best Kept Secret because he’s such a great coach but doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Coach Dante Funtila led the GSF 5-Star 7v7 team to its first championship since the inception of the GSF 7v7 Tournament Series back in 2017. Since day one, he’s been the head coach for GSF and is a considerable proponent of player development. Coach Dante and defensive coordinator Coach Sean Thomas have an old-school approach to the game. They preach discipline, hard work, and accountability. The team is not flashy or loud. They’re pretty even keel, which matches their all-black attire with the classic gold-colored emblems. They mean business with a mindset of never losing because there will always be lessons to learn, victory or not.
