The first BIG GAME of the 2021 Fall season took place in Santa Clara Thursday night between two CCS powerhouses Wilcox Chargers and Valley Christian Warriors.

Valley Christian started off slow while Wilcox came out on fire. Luther Glenn busted off a 65-yard TD early in the first and followed it up with another TD after a turnover one drive later. Glenn played outstanding on both sides of the ball. He was “the Boy” for the Chargers up until the end. Glenn also seemed to have gotten himself injured in one of his pass-break-ups against the Warriors’ 4-star national recruit Jurrion Dickey in the endzone. But he still played thru it and scored two more touchdowns on offense in the second half and led the charge for a comeback bid in the third. On the flip side of things, Valley Christain had “the Man”, QB Jakson Berman. They also had the MVP, Jurrion and the combo was unstoppable. It took a quarter to get going for the Warriors but when they got going, they got going. The most impressive thing about Berman was his ability to command the offense in crucial situations. VC’s offense is not that hard to figure out if you know football. Stopping them is the main challenge. With Berman and Dickey, it is even harder. Berman connected with his MVP three times in the air on similar plays and similar situations. Berman also ran three touchdowns in which he was pretty much untouched all the way to the endzone.

Mistakes plagued Wilcox as the game went on. You cant’ turn the ball over six times and expect to win against a team like Valley Christian. The real game-changer was the Warriors’ offensive line who protected their prized QB Berman as if he was a national treasure. Berman is also a track star along with Dickey and both of these young men will cause havoc in the WCAL come league play. According to Ethan Kassel of @KasselMedia, Berman racked up a total of 375+ yards and was responsible for six total touchdowns. Dickey on the other hand lived up to the expectation and provided the fans including us the entertainment that we wanted to see. He opened up the second half with a 91-yard kick return for a TD, untouched. He hauled in two touchdown passes in the corner of the endzone where only he can make the catch, a play patented by him and his QB. And his yards after catch was dominant every single time he caught the ball. Dickey finished with 11 receptions, 190 yards, and three TDs plus the kick return to start off the second half.

If you are a Wilcox fan, you should be excited for the rest of the season knowing that your team is now battle-tested against the next tough opponent on the schedule, Pittsburg whom they will play in week four. Los Gatos is really the only other team that will be tough for the Chargers in our opinion. Once the offense cleans up the mistakes, Wilcox will surely dominate. The video highlights kind of mentioned it but had it not been for the fumbled exchanges in the first half, Wilcox should’ve been up 28-7 at halftime. But the mistakes spotted the VC offense with some really good field position to score. Expect Luther Glenn to be in the top 3 player list in SCVAL by the end of the season.

Expect Jurrion Dickey to upgrade his status to a 5-star before the year is over if he keeps executing the way he is. Also, expect Jakson Berman to break some records if his line stays healthy and dominant the rest of the season. The Warriors’ biggest test will come in weeks three and seven when they take on Pittsburg and then Serra with a St. Francis in week six in between. When it was all said and done, Jurrion earned himself the iconic GSF Game of the Week MVP shirt with an Ike’s sandwich gift card. Berman earned himself the Playmaker shirt, along with the gift card for making things happen all game as the Warriors’ field general.
