The Lancers came and conquered to continue their quest for greatness.
Earlier in the 2021 football season, St. Francis ended one of the longest streaks in high school sports history. They ended the De La Salle Spartans’ 30-year-old NorCal region streak of 318 games. Last Saturday, the Lancers ended another streak by defeating Serra.
The Padres were undefeated in the Spring and extended their win streak to 12 before losing to St. Francis. They struggled defensively and gave up 344 yards to one player alone. Senior JuJu Teu broke the school record of 344 yards on 45 carries to go along with his two touchdowns. JuJu, the GSF Game of the Week MVP, a two-time GSF Offensive Player of the Week, and quite possibly the WCAL Player of the Year was unstoppable. Thanks to his offensive line that was dominant the entire game, JuJu and the rest of the offense racked up over 500 yards of offense.
On the other side of the ball, St. Francis’s defense played physically forcing Serra to really earn every yard they needed to score. As expected, they score three times but it wasn’t enough. One key possession mid-way thru the fourth ended with a 4th and goal pass break up by Michael Artmore Jr. That was Serra’s last chance to put together a dramatic comeback in front of thousands of football fans. They were down 34-21 at that time with plenty of time to make a dramatic comeback.
Serra played intimidated, especially on defense. St. Francis came out confident, determined, and purposed. Perhaps this game’s momentum started to shift, weeks ago when Serra’s star player Hassan “The Missil3” Mahasin’s senior season campaign ended with a torn ACL against Bellarmine in week #4. The 4-star San Diego State commit scored four touchdowns against St. Francis as a junior this past Spring with his Padres beating the Lancers 49-7. But that was the past and this time, it was the Lancers who applied the pressure and dominated the Padres.
Four Lancers earned GSF Game of the Week honors, FS Nicolas Aandrighetto, QB Joshua Perry, and WR Andrew Adkison earned the GSF Playmaker shirts. The MVP was a no-brainer. JuJu Teu, with his record-breaking performance, was the man.
With the win, St. Francis solidified their status as the best team in NorCal, the WCAL Champions, and the #1 seed in the CCS Division 1 playoff bracket. They will take on #8 Aptos at home in the first round while #2 Serra host #7 Valley Christian at home on Saturday.
