Carlmont hosted Santa Clara Friday night to wrap up their pre-season schedule. The Bruins, with USC, commit Amos Talalele on the line, were slightly favored mainly because of the talents they possess in the trenches. Carlmont, on the other hand, had the speed and the home-field advantage.

Santa Clara drove the ball upfield right from the start but turned the ball over as soon as they hit the red zone. That started a trend that would eventually be the game-changer. The Bruins, despite the marvelous “never give up” attitude displayed by their players, turned the ball over inside the twenty four times. They only scored once.

Carlmont ran the ball well and was quick to do it, a game plan executed well against an extensive Santa Clara defensive line. QB Jack Weissinger was the conductor and leader that consistently gave the Scots the drive to move forward. Defensively, LB Rich Smith led with eight total tackles. Trevor Johnson was involved in three key turnovers that gave the ball back to the Scots.

Despite the loss, Talalele was outstanding and dominant on offense and defense. But football is a team sport and he can only do so much from his position.
