Senior Kaleb Asfew led the Lincoln Lions to an early lead against the Evergreen High Cougars. It was the first league matchup of the season and the well-balanced performance by the Lions led to a perfect 6-0 result. Lincoln moved the ball well. Asfew, along with team captain Johan Granados orchestrated the time of possession of the ball in favor of Lincoln. Iziah Anaya, Pablo Guiterez, and Richard Souza patrolled the middle and disrupted any and all opportunities Evergreen had. The Cougars only got off five shots the entire game.
Freshman Manalo San Patricio Joaquin scored two goals upon entering the game in the last 15 minutes to put the game out of reach. Joaquin displayed tremendous focus, quickness, and tough ball handling every time he touched the ball. He had four total shots on goal. Asfew also scored two for the lions, the first in each half. He’s definitely one of the best players in the league. Granados headed a perfect shot for the second score of the game. Cesar Pena booted a short pass in front of the goal in between Joaquin’s pair of goals. Evergreen was overwhelmed defensively and couldn’t take control of the ball enough. Final score 6-0 Lincoln.
