With 5:25 left in the third quarter, down 24-13, St. Ignatius had the ball on the Padres’ 2-yard line and was getting ready to score after opening the second half with an 11 play, 78-yard drive. But the ball was stripped away by the Padres defense on their 12th play ending what could’ve been a momentum-changing scoring drive. Senior defensive end K.C. Clark was responsible for the turnover, the first in the game for both teams.

QB Dominique Lampkin orchestrated a 14 play, 97-yard touchdown drive that put the game out of reach. Shortly after that drive, the defense forced another takeaway with newly upgraded 3-star safety Malakai Hoeft’s interception in midfield.  Senior RB Petelo GI scored both of those touchdowns to punctuate the win for Serra. GI came in the game with six touchdowns and ended the night with nine.

Serra started hot with three quick scores thanks to the offensive line’s dominating performance against SI. Lampkin, at one point, had five whole seconds to wait for his receiver Jayden Weber to get open up the middle for a 41-yard connection followed by a GI’s first touchdown of the game. Lampkin scored the other two Padres’ touchdowns and racked up over 150 yards offensively.

St. Ignatius came prepared and moved the ball well after making adjustments late in the second quarter and early in the first quarter. They played cleaner than Serra as far as the penalty game. But the Padres have playmakers on defense, and that was the game-changer.

Head football coach Patrick Walsh talked about the end zone bleachers during his weekly podcast, and the addition was an upgrade for the homecoming atmosphere. It also gave it a “De La Salle home game feel” when the team greeted the student section.

Serra defeated St. Ignatius 38-19 to improve their record to 7-0 with a Thursday night game on tap against Sacred Heart Cathedral at Kezar Stadium.
