One of the most highly anticipated games of the Fall 2021 season finally took place between the Valley Christian Warriors and the Serra Padres. This game lived up to the hype if you actually stayed the entire game. Serra came out with some fire and scored 28 unanswered points even without their 4-star WR Hassan “The Missil3” Mahasin. This goes to show how deep and talented this 2021 Padre squad is compared to whoever you want to compare them to. They have major talents who can make plays on offense, defense, and special teams.
Valley Christian on the other hand has the best athlete in NorCal in Jurrion Dickey and his partner in crime Jakson Berman fed him the ball enough times to resurrect the Warriors from the dead. The Warriors flatlined early and it seemed as though the Padres were going to put up 50+ on the board. But the Warriors came out with more sense of urgency and with a game plan to get the ball to their playmaker Jurrion Dickey.
The game-changer was special teams. Senior Malakai Hoeft took a punt and returned it 73 yards for a touchdown after Valley Christian punted away on their second possession of the game. It is also worth mentioning that the Warriors are battle-tested while the Padres have not really played a team with some major talent.
Despite not having scored in the second half at all, the Padres did enough in the first half offensively to come out on top. Penalties aided all three Valley Christian scoring drives, something the Padres need to iron out in the next couple of weeks before the showdown against St. Francis.
Final score, 28-21 Padres improved to 6-0 and will host St. Ignatius Friday night for their homecoming game at home.
