Zac Contreras – Riordan Wrestling

Posted June 16, 2013 by in – Zac Contreras is one of the most decorated athletes in Riordan history. His resume speaks volumes as you see his immaculate record of 143 wins to only 23 losses. His three straight WCAL titles and three straight CCS titles have helped put Riordan wrestling back on the map. Last but not least, Zac won the 2013 Ed Fennelly Outstanding Athletic Commitment Award before graduating this year. The legacy of Contreras will be remembered at Archbishop Riordan for years to come.

Before Zac came to Riordan as a freshman in 2009, Riordan’s principal and wrestling head coach, Vittorio Anastasio had retired since 2006 to raise his newborn twins. He received a call from Zac’s father, John Contreras who wanted to team up and coach at Riordan. Anastasio had wrestled himself at Riordan, graduating in 1984 and becoming the head coach in 1988. He has known John Contreras for 24 years and knew Zac since he was a baby. For the past four years, the relationship between a coach, father, and wrestler has grown into the revival of Riordan wrestling.
