Leigh was described by their head coach Kevin Padia as a “prolific passing team” but Westmont’s stingy defense only allowed four completions out of fifteen attempts the entire game. The Warriors have only given up 14 points in their first three games while averaging 40+ on offense. Leigh’s offense has dominated each of their opponents as well scoring over 40 in each of their first three games. The “game-changer” was Super Senior Sam Betz, a multi-sport athlete who can play just about any position on the field including QB.
Betz scored four touchdowns, impressive right? Yes, but he did more. He contributed 30 points out of the 48 his Longhorns scored against the Warriors. Betz also racked up 7 total tackles, five were solo. He stripped the ball twice but the officials ruled the runners down by contact. He was the kicker and was near perfect on PATs. He was also 1-for-1 in passing when he connected with James Bose on a halfback pass play that led to his second TD of the game. His last play was an interception to complete the entire cycle and our producer ALF Joaquin crowned him the Week #5 South Bay Construction Game-Changer on the spot.
Speaking of on the spot, Padia was also named our Week #5 South Bay Construction Coach of the Week. The Longhorns have not lost a game in 2021 after a 5-0 Spring/Covid football season and 4-0 star this season. With only 27 players suited up, Coach Padia’s “Gladiator” approach seems to be working. They don’t take any days off, they work out, lift and practice pretty much every day. And that regiment seems to be working just fine. Leigh is definitely a team that looks like it’s built to last.
