This game was a must-win for Mitty and St. Ignatius but only one team can take the “W”. The Wildcats had the home field advantage and took charge early with a huge forced fumble, scoop and score by one player, Charlie Pyfer. Pyfer also threw a touchdown pass in the second quarter to give SI a comfortable 14-0 lead at halftime.
Mitty tried to respond but penalties hurt their drives. The Monarchs finally got the momentum when Steven Anaya picked off a pass followed by a TD run by Taron Thang.
The Wildcats got it together after that and drove downfield after a 23-yard kick return by August Parker. Pyfer did most of the dirty work with Aidan Smith, the QB, scoring on a keeper.
Parker, who was targeted a lot at cornerback sealed the win for SI with a pick-6 mid-fourth. Final score 28-7 Wildcats.
St. Ignatius will play Serra next in San Mateo under the lights at Brady Family Stadium.
