This was a statement win for the Sacred Heart Prep Gators. They came in battle-tested, and it showed. QB Mitchell Taylor led the offensive attack using his weapons in the air and on the ground. Senior RB Andrew Latu was unstoppable with the rock and also contributed on the defensive side. Mitchell ended up with 8 completion for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Anytime they needed a big yardage play, Mitchell delivered, earning himself the iconic GSF MVP shirt. Latu got the Playmaker award for his 19 carries, 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Riordan lost their first game under new head football coach Adhir Ravipati. But the team showed some promising signs, especially at the QB position. Michael Mitchell Jr, a freshman, handled himself well in his first three games as a varsity starter. He did turn the ball over three times, but his competitive spirit remained intact. The turnovers hurt the Crusaders’ chance of winning the game, something that can be corrected in time.
So what’s next?
SHP will host Los Gatos at home for an afternoon game while Riordan travels down South to Valley Christian to open up WCAL play up “The Hill.”
