Sacred Heart Prep is peaking at the right time. If you look closely at some of their playmakers you’ll see a difference in size and speed. In-season workouts really do work. Coach Mark Grieb and his squad ended the regular season 3-7, with numerous close losses at the beginning of the season, but have turned things around. Senior Mat Bucher, a two-way starter had a tremendous game with 17 total tackles. Junior defensive stud Shay O’Kelly is one of the best tacklers in the state got the opposing offense running the ball away from him but still manage to get his share of more than 10 tackles per game.
University Prep came down all the way from Redding and brought their offensive fireworks but unfortunately, they were not able to ignite any spark at all thanks to the Gators swarming to the ball especially in the first half.
Sacred Heart Prep went on to win 20-0 and will play in the CIF Division 5-A State Championship against Righetti next Saturday.
